EXT. WHITE HOUSE PICNIC BENCH - EVENING
PRESIDENT OBAMA, PROFESSOR GATES and LIEUTENANT CROWLEY are seated when an USHER brings a Bud Light, Blue Moon and Red Stripe to them on a platter. They take their beers.
Obama takes a drink first. Gates takes a sip from his beer. Crowley takes a drink.
Long, very uncomfortable SILENCE.
Gates begins absentmindedly TAP-TAP-TAPPING on the table.
Obama stares off distantly.
C/U on Crowley. His face is contorted in an uncomfortable expression for a minute as he unconsciously nods in a rhythm.
C/U on Gates. He’s staring far away, still lightly TAPPING on the table.
C/U on Obama. He has a pleasant look, but is also staring off.
The three of them sit in a long, several-minute-long silence, not looking at each other.
Obama takes a larger drink of his beer.
Crowley begins making a nervous CLICKING sound with his facial muscles all bunched up.
Gates crosses his arms, SIGHS and sips his beer again.
Obama chugs down the rest of his beer.
They get up and walk off in different directions.
